If you want to get involved in singing this summer or have youngsters who’d love to learn some musical instruments in a fun environment, then Okehampton folk music organisation Wren Music have three programmes that could be just for you.
The programmes are a singers’ club; summer music sessions for young people aged 8-16; and music sessions for families and children up to the age of seven.
All the programmes are at Wren Music’s Ebenezer Hall premises in North Street, providing a welcoming space for everyone. The sessions are led by professional singers and musicians from Wren Music.
Singers Club: Friday evenings 7-9.30pm
A safe space for singers to bring their work in progress and an opportunity to share the song they are learning, or one they’d like to revive. Get feedback from fellow singers in a friendly supportive atmosphere. There’s also the chance to sing at a Folk Concert Special at Church Hall, Market Street, Okehampton, on 13 September, for those wishing to take part. The singers club dates are 26 July, 9 August, 23 August, 6 September, and 20 September.
Children’s Summer Music Sessions, Thursdays 10am-3pm (£15 per child, additional siblings £10).
Music sessions for 8 to 16-year-olds, and a chance to have fun with learning and making music. Youngsters can try an instrument from the Wren store that they may never have played before or bring their own instrument to help make the band. Drinks provided, bring a packed lunch. Dates are 8 August, 15 August, 22 August, and 29 August.
Family Summer Music Sessions, Fridays 10am-12pm (£5 per family)
A session for families and younger children 0-7. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Fun events with songs, dances, percussion, and real instruments! Dates are 9 August, 16 August, 23 August, 30 August.
