Best Cream Tea, as voted by the Cream Tea Club

Ever wondered where to find the best cream tea in the South West? According to the Cream Tea Club, the crème de la crème of this staple West Country treat is to be found at the Moorland Garden Hotel in Dartmoor in Devon.

A poll amongst guests who attended the Cream Tea Club networking events held throughout 2016 named the Moorland Garden Hotel’s teatime offering the Best Cream Tea of the year.

Founder Clare Stirling of Made with Maturity was delighted to present the Moorland Garden Hotel’s General Manager, Andrew King, with a certificate to mark the accolade. She was joined by Jeremiah from local children’s bereavement charity, Jeremiah’s Journey, the Cream Tea Club’s chosen charity, who was simultaneously presented with a cheque for £795 raised by the Cream Tea Club during 2016.

Andrew King from the Moorland Garden Hotel said: “The age-old debate of which goes on first, jam or cream, continues to rage, but whichever way you opt to have your scone it is a ritual to be taken very seriously. We were up against some very stiff competition with some fantastic establishments having hosted the Cream Tea Club events and we’re absolutely thrilled to come out on top.  All in the name of a very good cause.”

Presenting the award, Clare Stirling said: “We’ve had a fantastic first year with the Cream Tea Club meeting with other businesses to network in a host of superb venues across the South West, whilst raising funds for Jeremiah’s Journey. We are delighted that the Moorland Garden Hotel won the award as voted by our guests, and we look forward to a return visit.”

The Cream Tea Club, which celebrates its first birthday next month, provides an opportunity for businesses to network in a relaxed atmosphere over a cream tea in a collection of South West venues.  The Cream Tea Club, supported by Trewithen DairyPlymouth Tea and JB Preserves, also aims to raise valuable funds for Jeremiah’s Journey. Jeremiah’s Journey is a local Plymouth charity, that provides therapeutic support to children, young people and families who have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special.

Sherelle Puertas, a fundraiser from Jeremiah’s Journey said ‘We would like to congratulate the Moorland Garden Hotel on winning such a well-deserved award! This fantastic amount will enable us to provide support to grieving children, young people and families, in Plymouth, who are going through a very difficult and tricky time in their lives. We are so grateful for The Cream Tea Club’s support this year, and are already very excited for 2017’s events!”
