Representatives of Plymouth animal rescue and rehoming charity, Gables Farm Dogs and Cats Home, have today (11th August) been presented with a cheque for £2500 by the staff of city law firm, GA Solicitors.

Gables Farm was named the firm’s charity of the year after being voted in by the firm’s 78 employees. Over the last 12 months it has benefited from a wide variety of fundraising efforts by the team such as dress down days, bake sales, raffles and sporting activities.

Gables Farm has rescued and rehomed unwanted dogs and cats in the region for more than a century. It takes care of 1000 animals each year, reuniting them with lost owners or finding them new homes. The charity enforces a strict non-euthanasia policy, which means no healthy animal in its care is put to sleep.

The money raised by GA Solicitors’ team will be put towards the upkeep and veterinary bills of the many animals, as well as the maintenance of the grounds and kennels.

David Stone, partner of GA Solicitors and keen supporter of Gables Farm, commented: “We are delighted to have raised this amount of money for such a fantastic cause. The team worked incredibly hard to raise every penny and this is a record breaking amount for the staff.

“Corporate social responsibility plays a substantial role in GA Solicitors’ business planning. Having been established in the city for more than 200 years we have a keen interest in supporting the local community wherever we can. We are so pleased to have supported Gables Farm over the last 12 months and to have been able to present them with this cheque today.”

Katie Barkell, marketing and fundraising officer for Gables Farm, added: “With no government funding we have to rely heavily on donations from individuals and organisations. To have a firm such as GA Solicitors select us as its charity of the year and raise such an amount is invaluable to us. We would like to thank all of the staff for their efforts over the last 12 months – and we are sure the animals are appreciative too!”

GA Solicitors’ nominated charity for 2017 is Little Things & Co, a Plymouth support charity that offers practical and emotional support to those who have suffered the loss of a baby.

With more than 200 years of heritage, GA Solicitors is a leading Plymouth law firm with 78 members of staff offering guidance across seven specialist departments: business; family; employment; dispute resolution; wills, trusts & probate; conveyancing and personal injury.
