Celebrate 20 Years of the NMA this May half term

In celebration of its 20th birthday, the National Marine Aquarium (NMA) in Plymouth will be holding a series of special events to commemorate its work and inspire new audiences about our oceans and their importance for a healthy planet, kicking off with a week-long party this May half term.

Taking place from 26 May - 3 June, visitors can look forward to an exciting array of birthday activities. A family trail will tell the history of the NMA and some of its key achievements from the last 20 years, and a series of live shows will celebrate the NMA's wonderful array of marine life. There will also be birthday crafts available for those feeling creative, while the new Loola Land Soft Play will be opening for the little ones to enjoy.

There will also an extra special Sleeping with Sharks Sleepover giving visitors an opportunity to see what happens at night in the underwater world around us.

Paul Botterill, Public Engagement Coordinator at the National Marine Aquarium, commented: “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to join us to celebrate our special birthday year this May half term. The activities will be showcasing the fantastic work the NMA does as a charity by involving and supporting our local community as much as possible. We are encouraging visitors to come along to the Aquarium where they can learn more about the marine life in our oceans through interactive shows, demonstrations and activities.”

Members from the NMA's the public engagement and schools team will also be in Cardiff as part of the Volvo Ocean Race village, providing a variety of fun-filled workshops.

To celebrate the special birthday year, the NMA will be hosting many special events over the next few months including, birthday boat trips to explore the Plymouth Sound, Nuffield wellbeing events and a free family night, with celebrations culminating on 24th July – the NMA’s official birthday day.

As an educational and marine conservation charity, the NMA relies on visitor funds and donations to continue its mission to connect us with our oceans. For more information, to book tickets and learn more about how you can support the NMA, visit:www.national-aquarium.com.
