£7 million investment in superfast broadband

Geoffrey Cox QC MP met Redmond Peel, managing director of Airband, following the announcement of a £7 million deal with Connecting Devon and Somerset which will see a further 13,000 homes situated in rural areas access superfast broadband internet with speeds of at least 30Mbps. Airband technology is effective in Dartmoor despite the challenging terrain of the area. 69,000 homes and businesses across Dartmoor and Exmoor National Park already benefit from superfast broadband through a range of technologies including Airband.

Following the meeting Mr. Cox Q.C. MP said: “A reliable internet connection is vital for families and businesses and I am glad Airband has found a solution to provide services in areas where delivering an internet connection through conventional means has been difficult. In addition to this, I am delighted that just last week a new £400 million Digital Infrastructure Investment Fund was launched demonstrating this Government’s commitment to supporting emerging fibre-broadband providers.”
