Spare two minutes to help Dartmoor Rangers
Dartmoor Rangers are calling for caring individuals to join them on a series of #2 minute litter picks at heavily visited sites in the National Park during August.
The summer months bring crowds of people to enjoy the wonderful Dartmoor scenery but amongst these visitors are individuals who treat this protected landscape like a rubbish tip, leaving food waste, disposable barbecues, bottles and cans behind when they leave. At Newbridge recently 32 black bags of rubbish were collected after one sunny Sunday, despite Rangers patrolling the site at its busiest, issuing black bags to people to enable them to take their rubbish away with them.
The volumes of litter in certain locations after sunny weather can be overwhelming and Rangers are asking, if you have two minutes to spare, please come along and help - if you have two hours, even better!
Join Dartmoor Rangers on:
- Sunday 6 August 10.30 – 12.30 at Cadover bridge, where they will be working with National Trust Rangers (the National Park outreach vehicle will be there along with Otter Spotter);
- Monday 7 August from 10am – 12pm at the main Newbridge car park;
- Tuesday 8 August 10.30 – 12.30 at Shipley Bridge (the National Park outreach vehicle will be there along with Otter Spotter);
- Sunday 20 August 10.30 – 12.30 at Shipley Bridge (the National Park outreach vehicle will be there along with Otter Spotter).
Look out for Distinctive #2 minute litter pick A frame boards, help for two minutes or up to two hours and post your pictures to Instagram or twitter tagged with #2minutelitterpick & #lovedartmoor.
The National Park spends over £20,000 a year on the disposal of rubbish and this does not include staff time picking it up from moorland beauty spots. Rubbish is a danger to livestock and human health.
