2018 Tavy13 - Another Fantastic Day for Tavistock Athletics

Sunday 15th April saw around 1000 people descend on Tavistock College for the start of the re-arranged 2018 Tavy13 half marathon, which follows a course of thirteen gruelling miles in and around Tavistock. Sponsored by Mansbridge Balment, along with financial planners Hansford Bell, the event had been re-arranged following the poor weather in March.

A field of 500 entered the main race, while an even greater number of local schoolchildren completed their very own half marathon's by running a final mile and collecting their commemorative medals.

The main race was won by local athletes, Ben Neale (M) and Rachael Malthouse (F), both of Tavistock Run Project, in times of 1.17.32 and 1.34.39 respectively.  Without doubt everyone taking part was a winner, but none more so than Mansbridge Balment's very own Rachel Anderson-Stacey who finished her first ever half marathon in a highly creditable 2.20.17.  Raising money for Children's Hospice South West, Rachel set a tremendous example of what can be done with some hard work, training, and a 'can do' positive attitude. Congratulations to Rachel and everyone else finishing the course this year.

Mansbridge Balment MD, Nick Henderson said: "The event was a huge success - congratulations to all those who have taken part, particularly the schoolchildren completing the Primary Schools Challenge running their own half marathon's.  It is a highly uplifting experience to be involved with and a wonderful atmosphere down at the trackside as the runners leave and then return to the arean.  It has once again been a delight to work with the team at Tavistock Athletic Club and, on behalf of Hansford Bell and ourselves, I would like to say a massive thank you to Martin Exley-Deane and his colleagues for organising such a fabulous event - particularly as it's the second time in a few weeks that they have done so!"
