British Beds

When British Beds moved into Yelverton business park nearly six years ago, Roger Charles and his colleagues were quick to dispel concerns that the company was some ‘retail giant’ attracting huge volumes of traffic and numerous HGV delivery vehicles. Although it trades very successfully worldwide, this is no ordinary high-volume bed shop – instead, it supplies luxurious beds and mattresses, hand made to order, including the Dartmoor Bed range which has been created locally over the last two years by Dartmoor craftsmen and uses wool from sheep raised at Northlew.

Roger Charles feels, as the company benefits from the patronage of both the worldwide and the local communities, that it is important to give something back as well. On most worldwide sales, British Beds contributes a small amount to ShelterBox, keeping in mind many less fortunate people around the world who have nowhere to sleep when calamities strike. Customers have also been keen to add donations and the combined amount has paid for seven shelter-boxes, each providing refuge for a complete family. Locally, the company has paid for the grass-cutting and upkeep of Yelverton roundabout for several years, as well as planting spring and summer flowers and facilitating in the renovation of the central signpost. Some efforts have been more successful than others though, as the planting of 40,000 poppy seeds only resulted in one poppy! British Beds has also just provided the paint for the refurbishment of the Crapstone bus shelter and everyone is looking forward to seeing the schoolchildren’s winning design appear on the shelter.

British Beds offers a 10% discount (5% on sale prices) to local customers with PL19 and PL20 postcodes. Roger Charles and his colleagues would like to thank local customers who have supported British Beds over the last six years and look forward to serving, supporting and making friends with the local community for many more years.
