Family fun at Meldon Wildlife Festival 2017

There is something for everyone at this summer’s Dartmoor Wildlife Festival which takes place at Meldon Old Quarry on Tuesday 15 August.

Discover more about a variety of Dartmoor creatures and their homes through a series of free drop in events and workshops. There is something for everyone with all ages catered for. Immerse yourself in stream dipping, butterfly walks, wildlife gardening or make your own wildlife homes to take away with you - just a small selection of the activities on offer.

Spend the day with us and our wildlife partners on 15 August. You can bring a packed lunch or alternatively why not purchase some refreshments from the Okehampton Scouts and Girl guides who will be there on the day.

Claire Partridge, Dartmoor National Park Conservation and Outreach Officer said: ‘We are hosting the free festival at Meldon to help people discover why Dartmoor’s wealth of fascinating and unique creatures makes the National Park internationally important for wildlife. Bring the family along and take part in some great wildlife adventures, helping young people gain an understanding of the huge variety of life on Dartmoor and indeed in their own gardens and parks at home. We would like to thank the landowners Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council and the Duchy of Cornwall for their support in making this event possible.’

The event is being held at Meldon Old Quarry signed off the B3260 opposite Betty Cottles near Okehampton. The event runs from 10:30 – 4pm and full details can be found on the National Park website www.dartmoor.gov.uk - or visit our stand at Okehampton Show on 10 August to pick up a copy of the programme (row D stand 8 below the main ring).
