Join the gardeners making a difference to local end-of-life care

Hospiscare

A local charity is calling for green-fingered supporters to join its successful Open Gardens campaign for 2022.

Hospiscare, the local hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon, is recruiting gardens of all shapes and sizes for their Open Gardens events next year.

From country cottage gardens to inner city patches, Hospiscare is inviting green-fingered enthusiasts to join their 40-strong community of Open Gardeners and make a difference to end-of-life care in the heart of Devon.

The charity cares for over 2,000 patients and their families every year on its specialist ward in Exeter and across the community in patients’ homes. With just 18% of its funding coming from the NHS, Hospiscare relies upon fundraising events like Open Gardens to provide their vital end-of-life care at no cost to its patients and their families.

Sarah Smith, Head of Public Fundraising at Hospiscare, says “We are looking for local people to share their love of gardening with the community and support our local charity. This year, we have had a wonderful range of Open Gardens – from community plant stalls and groups of neighbouring gardens opening together, to garden music events and open allotments.

2021 has been our most successful Open Gardens to date, raising over £40,000 for patients living with a terminal illness in the heart of Devon. We would love to hear from anyone interested in opening their garden during 2022; it’s an incredible way to support our charity at this particularly difficult time for our finances."
