Medieval longhouse open for guided visits

Higher Uppacott is opening its doors to a number of guided visits from the beginning of April. This grade 1 listed medieval longhouse has recently undergone substantial conservation works to improve access, understanding and condition of the building and its former historic farmstead. During this time the building has largely been closed to the public but we are pleased to be able to open it up to visitors once again. Led by knowledgeable guides, these visits provide a glimpse into what life was like on medieval Dartmoor. The work, funded by the Moor than meets the eye heritage lottery project, has revealed fascinating information about the development of this building from its original two rooms to what we see today. All this work and additional research into Dartmoor’s medieval farmsteads has provided us with an updated story to tell about this fascinating place.
