Moor Otters released across Dartmoor: Potter Otter arrives at his new home

Following the official launch of the Moor Otters public art conservation trail this week, wizardly Potter Otter has safely arrived at his new home, the Moorland Garden Hotel near Yelverton. Harry Potter fans will be pleased to hear that, unlike his namesake, Master Potter won’t be living under the stairs but has been given pride of place in the Dartmoor Bar.

Welcoming their special guest, Marketing Manager, Andrea Johnson said: “Everyone here is thrilled that we’re sponsoring Potter Otter. We’re sure he’ll be a big draw for visitors and guests over the summer. He fits perfectly with the hotel’s family-friendly ethos and we’re looking forward to welcoming lots of muggles, witches and wizards, young and old.”

Otter spotters can pop in and see Potter and are being encouraged to have their photo taken with him (Potter Otter can be found tweeting @potterotterMGH). The hotel is also organising a special Potter Otter Magical Afternoon Tea on 8 July, which promises a magical menu.

Potter Otter is one of 100 original pieces of art making up the trail across the moor in a first of its kind fundraising initiative to help preserve the unique landscape of Dartmoor National Park and make it accessible to all. Created by Gloucestershire artist, Rachel Shilston, to replicate Harry Potter, the Potter Otter sculpture will be on display until September, when all otters are before being auctioned off to raise funds for the National Park.
