We hope you will agree the hanging baskets look great this year and Tavistock BID would like to say a massive thank you to Abode Property Agents for their generosity in sponsoring the baskets, which means BID funds can now be diverted to other essential work. Our South West in Bloom entry was judged in July, a successful collaboration between Tavistock Town Council, Tavistock BID and Tavistock Community Gardening, with all three groups working together to bring soft, green life into the town centre. We have our green fingers crossed for success but have to wait until Friday 11 October for the results.

The June Fiver Fest was hailed a great success by many of the businesses involved and raised the town’s profile as a place worth shopping in. The message was simple: if every adult in Tavistock spent £5 a week on the high street, rather than online or in supermarkets, it would bring £2.6 million per year to the town’s economy. Look out for another one in autumn and please give our shops your support. In collaboration with West Devon Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce, a parking questionnaire is being launched over the summer months to better understand the needs of the business community and visitors. The results should be known in the autumn.

Our Summer Festival events are now underway. You will see unusual displays forming part of three different trails around The Meadows and high street with great prizes to be won. Come along and make a t-shirt or take part in an animation workshop, in our exciting new collaboration with Learn Devon. Entertainingly Different will be back and the end of August will see more Games on the Square with Bubbleman working his magic. There’s plenty to keep you entertained this summer! For more details on all town events, like us on Facebook or see www.visit-tavistock.co.uk.
