Nominations are now open for this year's Mayoral Awards.

West Devon Borough Council is looking for outstanding individuals, firms or organisations, who deserve public recognition for their unpaid work or contribution.

West Devon Borough Council’s Mayoral Awards have been running since 2002, and are aimed at those people who have done something significant within the Borough, enhanced the reputation of the Borough nationally, or who have contributed significantly to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.

If you would like to nominate someone, then please complete a nomination form giving us details of why you think they should receive an award. Nominations close at midnight on 28 February 2019.

Cllr Mike Davies, Mayor of West Devon said: “There are a great many individuals and groups that go quietly about our borough working on projects that benefit those around them, and many of them never get the recognition they deserve – in fact many of them don’t expect any recognition at all. The Mayor’s Award is a chance for me, on behalf of the Borough, to thank these unsung heroes and let them know how grateful we are for all that we do.”

Last year’s winners included a couple who work to bring films to village halls in isolated communities, a group who work to recycle plastics in North Tawton, and individuals who care for sites in their parish and look after vulnerable people. Merit Awards were also given to Tidy Tavi, Tavistock Lions Club and the Trustees of Lifton Community Centre.

Cllr Davies continued “I know that there are a great many young people in West Devon who make a really positive difference to their communities, and we would particularly like to see nominations for the Under-18 Category this year. Perhaps you’re a Scout, Guide or Cadet Leader who knows someone outstanding, or has a Young Farmer impressed you this year?”

There are three categories of award which are: The Mayor’s Green Award, The West Devon Mayoral Award (Under 18) and The West Devon Mayoral Award (Over 18/ Organisation), with nominators allowed to put forward as many nominations as they wish in each category.

The judges, who will include the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, will have a tough job of judging the nominations. The winners will receive their awards at a ceremony on 27 March 2019.
