North East Dartmoor Care Saved

North East Dartmoor Care (NEDCare), the community-owned not-for-profit charity threatened with closure because of care staff shortages, has been saved in a dramatic rescue. The threat occurred when the charity could not find a replacement Registered Manager for Simon Tickner, who was a key figure in the growth of this highly popular service.

The rescue is through a new Partnership with Karrek Community CIC, another not-for-profit care organisation based in Cornwall . They are providing a temporary Registered Manager and support to help NEDCare get back on its feet, to develop and hopefully grow the service for the communities in which it works.

NEDCare has run a regulated care service for adults in their homes for over five years, starting from nothing. It is now a viable and successful charity, owned and run by the communities of North East Dartmoor – Teign Valley; Tedburn and Cheriton; Chagford, Moreton and surrounding villages; Lustleigh and Manaton.

Feedback about the services provided by NEDCare has always been extremely positive. The charity has enabled many people with significant health and social care needs to return to and remain in their own homes and in their own communities, thus freeing up beds in hospitals. Half of NEDCare’s clients fund themselves; the other half are paid for by Devon County Council.

NEDCare urgently needs new support staff and carers. Do you know anyone who likes working with people, is a car driver, and might be interested in joining this friendly local team?

The charity provides competitive salaries and has increased its travel expense rate. It provides excellent working conditions and team support.

Above all, NEDCare cannot function properly without local support. Please help if you possibly can.

Thank you from the Trustees: Jenny Bates, John Willis (Moretonhampstead); Anne Porter (Teign Valley); Paul Mitchell (Cheriton Bishop).
