Official Opening of the new Dingy & Gig Park at Weir Quay

by

The new Boat Park at Weir Quay was officially opened by one of the youngest members from each club -  Weir Quay Sailing Club and Tamar and Tavy Gig Club - who are joint owners of the new site. Also present among many members, family and friends were Councillors Benson, Leithall, Moody, Reed and Sanders from the Parish, WDBC and DCC. Special guests included the Clarks and Kumpels who have generously helped from the inception of the new site. The new Boat Park is a facility that will allow for much needed storage for vessels and equipment by Members and the Clubs.

Everyone connected with this substantial project are grateful to the many people who have generously financed the project to date.   A further £100,000 still needs to be raised to provide the erection of a Boat Shed for secure, dry storage and also a Club house where indoor facilities will provide the routine needs of members - to help with the off-the-water training that will benefit the many young people who want to learn how to row and sail safely.

The present Board of Directors headed by Rowing Captain, Tricia Stewart is now urgently seeking further funds to build a Boat Shed and Clubhouse. Thanks to the generosity of local Trusts including the Belinda O‘Flynn and Activistock Trusts, they have ensured that main contractors ‘Landmarc’ have now completed the creation of the site.

Please contact the Company Secretary – Graham Reed at wqwatersports@gmail.com if you can help or know of someone who will support this vital facility for the training of Cadets who could perhaps be Olympic-Medal standard winners in a few years.
