Plymouth Arts Cinema launches a summer of Open Air Cinema at Tinside Lido

Plymouth Arts Cinema is hosting a season of film by the water’s edge at Plymouth’s iconic Tinside Lido.

For more than a decade, Plymouth’s independent cinema has been organizing the popular Open Air Cinema events, and this year is no exception. As ever, all profits are invested in PAC’s charitable mission of enabling as many people in our community as possible to experience great cinema.

There will be something for everyone, as they screen Hollywood Classics, cult favourites and screen treasures new and old.

Director and Film Programmer Anna Navas said, “we are so happy to be working with our friends at Tinside again, it is a highlight of the year for us to screen films in such a beautiful place and with such a great team. We expect a lot of singing, dancing and dressing up this year!”

The film programme is bursting with musicals, with Spielberg’s new adaptation of West Side Story, Abba favourite Mamma Mia!, camp horror The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the divine decadence of Cabaret, and Hollywood classic Singinin the Rain, come rain or shine!

There’s 80’s nostalgia aplenty with Top Gun, revisiting where it all began for Tom Cruise, and the cooler than cool sci-fi dystopia Blade Runner. For the more cynical of heart, the ultimate cult classic, black comedy Withnail and I, will be gracing the big screen, featuring an elegantly wasted Richard E. Grant as Withnail.

Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, which was a sell-out success when it played at Plymouth Arts Cinema on its release in 2021, will be providing a feast for the eyes and a whip-smart comic delight.
