Raise the Roof for Tavistock Parish Church

Individuals, families and community groups are being invited to take part in Tavistock Parish Church’s new fundraising campaign to ‘Sponsor a Slate’ for the vestry roof. The roof has been leaking for some time and after a very wet winter, restoration work is urgently needed.

Donors are being invited to sponsor a slate and inscribe it with their name, or those of family members or loved ones, as well as personal messages and designs. The campaign aims to raise £28,000 towards the total estimated cost of £84,000; part of the cost will also be funded by The Friends of St Eustachius’. Over 1,000 new slates will be required to match the existing roof of the Grade Two* Listed building.

Vicar, the Very Rev Dr Christopher Hardwick said: “Whether for a birthday, anniversary, christening, wedding or simply, ‘just because’, this newly launched campaign offers a chance to make your mark on history whilst also supporting this essential fund-raising.”

A whole slate can be sponsored for £25, or a small section for just £5 and all donors will be recorded in a vestry book to commemorate their generosity, unless they wish to remain anonymous. Slates are available in the church or donations can be made at the Parish Office (almost opposite the church in Plymouth Road) on 01822 616673, or online at www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/vestry.
