Rock Methodist Christmas Tree Festival

12th – 17th December

Rock Methodist Christmas Tree Festival

This is the 6th year we have held a Christmas Tree festival at Rock Church, Yelverton and each year we have about 25 sponsored trees decorated by local businesses, organisations and schools. We never cease to be amazed by the creativity and beauty of the trees once decorated and it is a magical sight to see all the trees lit; it’s like entering a fantasy wood – especially when it starts to get dark – and the church provides the perfect setting for the display. We do of course have our moments, like the year we came in one morning to find that some hand-baked decorations had absorbed moisture overnight and fallen off a couple of trees! Fortunately, we were soon able to remedy the situation and all was well by the time we opened.

So where is Rock church? Many people don’t realise we are in the village. If you stand with your back to the row of Yelverton shops you will see us on the opposite side of the roundabout. You can’t miss the banner and the lit stained-glass window has been a beacon to many on a dark night. On Sunday morning (17 Dec) we hold our traditional carol service of 9 lessons and carols and everyone is welcome. The church is packed for the occasion so you won’t feel conspicuous. Do come along because this is another magical moment, singing carols surrounded by the trees and munching mince pies afterwards! So, come and see the festival, entrance is free and it is well worth a visit.

Tuesday to Saturday: 10.30am – 4.30pm

Sunday: 2pm – 4pm

If you would like to sponsor and decorate a tree it costs £30 (this includes the cost of the tree which is provided) and there may still be time to join in when you read this – just! Please contact Marion Luckhurst on 01822 854404.
