Saturday 8th September Get your entries ready for Milton Abbot Village Show

It’s time to start talking nicely to your tomatoes and serenading your roses. Why not put 8th September in your diary and come and join in with a village tradition that has been happening annually in Milton Abbot for more than eighty years. We welcome entries and support from far and wide, you don’t have to live in the parish to share in the fun.

A few things have changed since the 1940s…the women tend not to wear best hats and white gloves any more, but there is still much friendly rivalry for the longest runner beans and the best display of flowers in a wellie boot, or the most flavoursome jam and lightest sponge. But it’s not all about growing and cooking. This year’s photography classes will include sport, outdoor pursuits, water activity, wildlife, holidays and ‘view from a height’, whilst art and handicrafts, as well as traditional painting, will embrace jewellery, woodcraft, patchwork, embroidery and a machine-made garment to name but a few. There’ll also be cups and pocket-money prizes for the children to win in twenty-three different classes, ranging from hat, kite and boat-making to pressed flowers and a lego creation.

Our judges are all booked and raring to go and the organising committee is busy fine-tuning all the details. Just imagine those cups and rosettes gracing your mantlepiece. Please do come along and help keep this much-loved tradition alive in Milton Abbot Village Hall.
