Tavistock and District Branch of the Labour Party

The Tavistock and District Labour Party branch, a part of the constituency of Torridge and West Devon has seen a huge growth in both interest and membership during 2017. We campaigned and leafletted during the surprise election this summer and this paid off as we increased our share of the vote by 11% and rose to second place in the constituency. The branch is active and meeting regularly and would welcome enquiries and interest from anyone in the constituency area that would like to know more.

· We have been actively involved with others in the community in a campaign to restore the X1 bus route from Tavistock to Plymouth railway station. Stagecoach, the bus company concerned is now looking to reinstate part of this service.

· We have petitioned on the issue of difficulties caused to people claiming Universal Credit.

· Other issues we are concerned about include rural housing affordability and the funding formula for local schools.

The branch meets monthly, currently in Tavistock and non-members are welcome to come along to meetings, join in discussions and raise issues that concern them. Once a person becomes a member then they are eligible to vote too.
