Tavistock Rotary Round-up

Tavistock Rotary’s biggest fundraiser is our Charity Golf Day on June 14th at Tavistock Golf Club, which regularly raises £4,000 for local charities. Last year’s winners, the Whitchurch Inn, will be defending their title, helping to raise funds for two vital local charities. The first, PDLF, is dedicated to supporting the haematology wards at Derriford Hospital where hundreds of local people been treated for blood cancers, and other ailments such as the after-effects of strokes. We have pledged to buy five state-of-the-art chemotherapy pumps, each costing around £2,000 and our target now is to raise enough for the final one. The second charity, the Tavistock Triangle Centre, is our main charity for the coming year. The centre’s experienced professional team helps cancer patients with treatment and recovery. Patients, carers and family members can find counselling and support in a friendly local environment.

I’ll be handing over to Norrie Philip as president of the club in July, but in the meantime I’m very excited about the Tavistock Schools Art Exhibition in June. All four Tavistock Primary Schools are taking part and, under the guidance of Whitchurch artist and teacher Annette Sharpe, over thirty year 5 pupils are producing brilliant work on the theme ‘Dartmoor’.
