Tavistock Teenage Market Returns

Young traders and performers are offered another chance to showcase their creative products and talents when the Teenage Market comes to Tavistock, on Saturday 21 October.

This event, to be held between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., follows the success of the first market which took place in May.  The market, supported by West Devon Borough and Tavistock Town Councils gives young people a free platform to showcase their creative talents.

Local teenagers will be performing live music and selling their homemade wares; which include art, handmade craft and also food and drink stalls.

Getting involved couldn’t be easier.  Simply create your trader or performer profile on the Teenage Market website www.theteenagemarket.co.uk before Sunday 15 October.  You can then apply to take part in the Tavistock Teenage Market on Saturday 21 October.

After you’ve applied to take part, the organisers will be in touch to let you know if you have been allocated a free stall or performance slot.

Nadine Trout, Commissioning Manager, West Devon Borough Council, said: “We are thrilled that the Teenage Market is returning this October.  The first event was a great success and the word has spread with the enthusiasm of our local young people who took part.  This market promises to be even bigger and more successful than last time.”

“It’s a really wonderful opportunity for the town to come together to support our local young entrepreneurs,” agreed Cllr Robert Oxborough, West Devon Borough Council’s Lead Member for Economy.  “This will offer a wealth of experience for the teenagers, while also supporting our local economy.  You don’t get any more local than this!”

Tavistock Mayor, Cllr Philip Sanders, added: “We have so many creative teenagers in and around the Tavistock area who can use this opportunity to showcase their talents.  The Town Council is delighted to support them in giving them the confidence and opportunity to do so.”

Phil Ruse, Assistant Principal, Tavistock College, said:  “Tavistock College is delighted to be working alongside West Devon Borough Council to promote and run the Teenage Market in Tavistock. The concept is designed to put young people at the forefront of an enterprise and performance based event within the backdrop of a traditional market town. Tavistock College students are looking forward to being involved in the promotion and marketing of the event, whilst also being part of a showcase for our young co-operative groups and local entrepreneurs.”

Come along and see these local young traders and performers by visiting the Tavistock Teenage Market at Bedford Square on Saturday 21 October.
