Ten Tors

The big adventure in which thousands of young people take to Dartmoor to cover a two-day trek across the moors takes place between Friday May 11th and Sunday May 13th.

Depending on their ages, the teams of six walkers will cover 35-mile, 45-mile or 55-mile routes across the moors, carrying with them their provisions and tents, navigating their way on a trek they have been training for since the beginning of the year.

Run by the Army and with help from the Royal Navy, the RAF and Dartmoor Rescue Group, Ten Tors in its current format has been taking place since 1965. Alongside it, the Jubilee Challenge is run for less able youngsters whose enthusiasm for the event is every bit as infectious.

The walkers leave Okehampton Camp early on Saturday, May 12, and return back to base the following day, tired but exhilarated by completing their challenges.

Ten Tors attracts teenagers from all over the UK - many will remember the event with pride for the rest of their lives.

Such a large event attracts many people to the Okehampton area, so expect the weekend to be a busy one!
