The “Concert for Remembrance” Young people of Devon take centre stage

This year’s Devon “Concert for Remembrance” replaces the traditional Festival of Remembrance held annually in Exeter for more than a quarter of a century. The aim is to involve young people of Devon and raise funds to enable the Devon Royal British Legion to return to Exeter Cathedral in 2018, the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War. This one-off performance will be held in The Mint Methodist Church, Fore Street, Exeter on Thursday 2nd November at 7.30pm.

The concert will be preceded by a brief Act of Remembrance to remember the Fallen of the 20th century’s two world wars and the other conflicts of the past hundred years. Given that the Legion’s future depends on the active involvement of today’s youth, there will be an exclusive participation of young people. Featured will be the Big Band of Okehampton Community College, a mezzo-soprano of outstanding talent from Holsworthy and pupils of St Sidwell’s Church of England Primary School, Exeter.

The Okehampton Band has built up a formidable reputation both locally and abroad and will only just have returned from a concert tour of New York a few days before. The children of St Sidwell’s School have written poems which they will read whilst the soloist, Cassy Jane, will contribute seamlessly to their readings.
