Tinth Celebrations in Tavistock

by

To launch the start of Tinth events, the media and information bus visited Tavistock on Friday to shed a little more light on not only the 'Man Engine' but other events surrounding the Tinth Anniversary.  In attendance were: (from left)  Tony Whitehead, Tavistock BID, John Taylor, Chair of Tavistock Heritage, Jacqui Orange of Tavistock Town Council, Councillor Mandy Govier and Will from Golden Tree Productions

In July 2006, the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this remarkable achievement in 2016, the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site Partnership has commissioned an exciting summer-long set of inspirational events and experiences for a Tinth Anniversary programme.

Tavistock is playing host to a variety of events that focus west Devon’s world changing industrial innovations. The biggest of these events will be the ‘big reveal’ of the Man Engine.

The Man Engine:   The largest puppet ever made in the UK, living proof of our world class engineering! The 10 metre high steam-powered giant will travel the length of the Cornish Mining Landscape over the course of two weeks, with celebratory events at each resting point. No-one but his creators knows what he looks like. Come see for yourself and be amazed at the big reveal in Tavistock’s Bedford Square on 25 July!
