Weir Quay Hub Club opening ceremony

The dedication of members of the Tamar & Tavy Gig Club and Weir Quay Sailing Club for over a decade or more bore fruition at the official opening ceremony celebrating the completion of the long-awaited boathouse. The much-needed facility has been built to house gigs and dinghies belonging to the two clubs and is styled on typical, local farm buildings with larch facings that will gently blend into the adjacent hillside.

The clubs became homeless in 2014 and a huge amount of discussion, designing, fundraising and dogged work has been poured into the project. The dinghy and gig park and boathouse have been created to replace the old site at the Weir Quay public hard; the dinghy and gig park was opened for use in 2016. The boathouse will become the focus for training younger members and create a dedicated space for community watersport and land-based activities.

The Hub Club board welcomed special guests to meet the donors and volunteers at the opening event on 22nd September. Fundraising continues so please contact Graham Reed at wqwatersports@gmail.com or 840002 for further details about how you can contribute to the funding and use of the Boathouse.
