West Devon Borough Council Encourages Residents to be Emergency Ready

West Devon Borough Council is supporting an ‘emergency-ready’ campaign by promoting one simple challenge each day throughout September.

The campaign, 30 Days, 30 Ways, starts on 01 September and asks people to prepare for a range of emergencies including storms, adverse weather, fires in the home, power cuts and flooding. The campaign also advises how communities can support each other such as where to give blood locally.

The campaign will be taking place throughout the UK, with local resilience partners including the emergency services, other local authorities, utilities and health partners, promoting the 30 key messages throughout the month.

Launching on social media, a daily message will be promoted on the @30Days30WaysUK Twitter and on the West Devon @WestDevon_BC Twitter and Facebook.

The messaging will encourage residents across the county to think about the simple actions that will help keep their families safe in larger scale emergencies as well as the importance of checking on elderly and vulnerable neighbours. There’s also a downloadable bingo graphic which people can use to test themselves, friends and family, on what they should do in various situations.

Cllr Tony Leech, West Devon Lead Hub Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

“This campaign reminds us of the importance of being prepared. If we can all be better informed regarding a range of situations and emergencies, we can be more confident should unforeseen or dangerous situations happen, and how to react to keep ourselves safe.

“The campaign is a great way for communities to share safety messages and to encourage us all to think about specific emergencies which might be more likely to occur in our areas especially those living in rural West Devon communities and those who visit Dartmoor.”

You can follow the campaign throughout September by following by using the hashtag #30days30waysUK on Twitter.
