Adult Learning Courses and Workshops at RHS Rosemoor

RHS / Jason Ingram

Throughout the year, RHS Rosemoor runs a wide range of courses and workshops to encourage and inspire you in your garden, to enable you to indulge in a favourite skill or hobby or try something new.

There are courses across four areas: Horticulture and gardens; traditional crafts; art and creative; and photography. There are also courses run by exhibiting artists in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre Exhibition room.

All of the courses have some key foundations — horticulture, well-being and sustainability. Following the launch of the RHS Sustainability Strategy in September 2021, the RHS is keen to incorporate sustainability across all their activities, and as a horticultural charity, sharing knowledge and enthusiasm for gardens and gardening is at the heart of everything it does.

The horticulture and gardens section draws on the huge gardening knowledge and skills of the team at RHS Rosemoor and visiting experts. Some general courses cover the essential annual tasks in the garden, using Rosemoor as an outdoor classroom. The popular A Year in Your Garden – Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter sessions and Beginners Gardening Basics days cover many seasonal and topical garden tasks. Other courses cover more specialist areas such as pruning roses and vegetable growing, and wildlife subjects such as bats and wildflower meadows.

In the traditional crafts section you will find opportunities for willow weaving from fun garden sculpture to traditional basketry techniques from trugs to Zarzo. There are also whittling courses and some festive foliage workshops leading up to Christmas.

Art and creative workshops offer a huge range of different activities. RHS Rosemoor is an ideal setting for outdoor drawing days and the plants are a great source of inspiration for botanical painting workshop, led by local and national artists including RHS Gold Medalists. felting, embroidery and mosaic making workshops also embrace the garden and horticulture theme, completing a rich and varied creative programme.

Finally, for all the budding photographers out there, RHS Rosemoor is a perfect location for capturing some beautiful images, whether you are a new to photography or looking to improve your skills. There are workshops from beginners photography to mastering flower photography. Some of the photography courses take place in the late afternoon / evening to take advantage of the special evening light.
