Horrabridge pupils create Dartmoor calendar

by

The Young Enterprise Club of Horrabridge Primary and Nursery School allows pupils the opportunity to develop a range of skills by encouraging opportunities for out-of-the-classroom learning. During the Autumn term, a group of 12 pupils worked to create twelve watercolour images of local tors on Dartmoor. They then had their paintings professionally printed into a calendar for 2017 which was then marketed and sold to raise money for the school. Part of the project involved advertising their calendar and liaising with local businesses so that they were able to organise times to sell their product. The pupils had to meet and speak to members of the public, showing confidence in their product and using their sales skills to sell their product. The children feel really proud of what they have created and have thoroughly enjoyed working together to achieve their success.

The Young Enterprise Club will soon be performing short plays that they will script themselves, organise and run as a performance event, showcasing their talents. Once again, marketing and business skills will be incorporated into the project.

The children have recently started to make use of the newly developed Garden Project area-which was reported on previously in Moor Links. In particular, they have now made use of our fire pit, using whittling skills to sharpen sticks on which to place marshmallows for toasting in our fire pit as part of our outdoor learning curriculum.
