We know that physical activities are good for our children, and in this area we are blessed with a variety of clubs, both for traditional sports and lesser-known activities. We have chosen a selection of the wonderful alternative sports on offer for your children to choose from.

Brit Spirit Little Dragons

Brit Spirit Little Dragons is a programme of martial arts-based fun for 4 to 6-year-olds at Tavistock College on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These unique classes follow a tried and tested formula designed to cater specifically for the needs of this age group. The classes are 30 or 35 minutes long, and are designed to challenge, motivate and develop life skills. Their key objectives are to instil confidence, discipline, fitness, focus...and FUN! Horrabridge Badminton Club & Tavyside Badminton

Horrabridge Badminton Club runs 'Junior Coaching' on a Wednesday evening at Horrabridge Primary School from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. The session is open to juniors of all ages and abilities and is run by experienced Badminton England affiliated coaches from Tavyside Badminton. Tavyside Badminton, based at Tavistock Community Sports Centre runs two junior coaching sessions on Saturday mornings: 9-10am for beginners, and 10am to midday. Tavistock Athletic Club

TAC provides opportunities for athletes from the age of 8 and above to receive coaching and compete in a wide range of athletic disciplines, ranging from local indoor sports hall activities to national track and field championships. In the winter season children aged 8-15 train in the indoor sports hall and can enter the Devon Sportshall League. There is also cross-country training for children 8 years old and above. Squash

The coaches at Tavistock Squash Club are keen to build a thriving academy for boys and girls of all ages to have fun and keep fit. Led by a level 3 coach and sports teacher, the sessions offer children the opportunity to learn a new sport to whatever level they wish. Sessions are available on most Saturday mornings, 10am to 12pm during term time. Children are welcome to try one of their taster sessions to see if they like taking part. Yelverton Tennis Club

Yelverton Tennis Club offers junior coaching with the club coach, Roger Froud, every Saturday morning for children interested in learning how to play tennis. There are 3 sessions: Advanced level - 9.15-10.15; Intermediate level - 10.15-11.15; Beginners - 11.15-12.15. Go Ride - With Tavistock Wheelers

Cycling’s ‘Go-Ride’ initiative is an exciting programme for young people that provides an enjoyable and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport. They will improve their bike handling skills, have fun, whilst learning skills in a safe off-road environment. Tavistock Wheelers, has established a Go Ride at the Tennis Courts at Tavistock Sports Centre every Saturday morning 9-10 am, for children between 9 and 14 years.
