Exeter based PaddleBoat Theatre is committed to delivering high-quality productions and workshops for children and families across the South-West. PaddleBoat believes in theatre which provides for the young minds of tomorrow, as well as reminding every adult that they too can rediscover their own imaginations. We work in residency in primary schools across the South-West to develop our shows directly with these young audiences, and regularly try out new ideas at family workshops in local community spaces, often providing a first theatrical experience for young children.

For this project, we are hosting inter-generational workshops with the aim to encourage an open dialogue between families to share their own stories and memories of WWII.  We have received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England, to create a family production to celebrate the life and work of Clare Hollingworth.  This tour in 2019 runs in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of the start of WWII. Clare Hollingworth, who died in January 2017, was the first journalist to report on the outbreak of WWII - the ‘scoop of the century’. Hollingworth was fearless and was awarded an OBE for services to journalism in 1982. Hollingworth’s life story, her character and profession inspired PaddleBoat to create a performance to share her legacy with families in the South West, and to make them reflect on their own experiences.

Ideal for 4 years + and families.
