Time to Flourish

Life is an adventure and at Mount Kelly pupils from Reception to Year 13 go on a voyage of discovery that is different to other schools.

#itstheclimb is a fitting motto for Mount Kelly, an independent prep school and senior school which sits either side of the River Tavy, just outside of Tavistock, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Perched high up on the hill on one side of the River Tavy lies the Prep, for pupils aged 4-13. On the opposite side of the valley lies the College, for pupils aged 13-18. Both sites are linked by an attractive bridge that crosses the River Tavy.

Starting in Reception, the Prep is the beginning of a magical educational journey. The youngest children start in The Ark, a purpose built, warm, safe environment, designed to ignite imagination and curiosity whilst giving ample space to play and explore. At year 3, the children move to the main part of the Prep and are taught in small class groups through to year 8 before heading to the College where years 9-13 grow into confident young adults.

Dominic Floyd, the Head of Prep explained: “A healthy diet of exceptional teaching, a broad and interesting curriculum, wholesome food, outdoor adventure and challenge and numerous extra-curricular opportunities, all delivered in a stunning part of the world, give our children a start like no other. We pride ourselves in nurturing every child and getting the best out of them. Our high levels of pastoral care ensure we develop character and confidence for every child to flourish.

“These early years of education are crucial and life defining for our children. Allowing our pupils to be themselves, to play, to be creative, imaginative and curious, all help develop socially confident, independent thinkers and aspirational young people."

Prep parents with busy lives can take advantage of the wrap around care for day pupils, with a drop off at 07:30 and collection at 18:00. Plus, there are full, weekly, daily and flexi boarding options.
