9 - 24 September- Devon Open Studios

Devon Open Studios is organised by Devon Artist Network (DAN) and provides a unique opportunity to meet artists in their own studios in some of the most beautiful, unexplored parts of Devon. This year, a bumper crop of 250 artists will be opening their doors to the public and exhibiting their work in more than 160 locations across Devon, showcasing paintings, prints, furniture, sculpture, photography, crafted ceramics, handmade jewellery and cutting-edge fashion. Resident artists and crafts people open their studios to show and sell their individual artworks directly to the public and many artists also give demonstrations, talks or let visitors have a go themselves.

A free guide to Devon Open Studios with colour coded maps and artist details is available from tourist information centres, libraries, hotels and galleries. Please check the brochure to confirm dates, times, and find out helpful directions.

One particular local artist, Marielle Ebner-Rijke will be showing at Belstone Village Hall EX20 1RB,  everyday except Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Devon Open Studios.   Living on the edge of Dartmoor, inspired by the animals and wildlife around her, she aims to capture an animal's spirit and character in the angle of a head, the flare of a nostril or the flick of an ear by studying their form, movement and three dimensionality. Monoprinting and charcoal drawings are her preferred medium as both techniques are gestural, painterly and immediate. She also enjoys using collagraph to create bold shapes, silhouettes and textural surfaces.
