Monday 3rd to Friday 28th December

A local photographer born in Devon, Tommy Hatwell has a very international portfolio, drawn from time spent travelling, working and photographing all over the globe. His camera has been intrinsic to this journey as he explores the environment around him - along with a smile, Tommy’s camera is a universal ice-breaker to amazing people, places and experiences. In 2017 Tommy’s image ‘Night School’, was selected from 6000 entries worldwide to feature as part of the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize exhibition displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Relationships are at the heart of this exhibition and each portrait has a story behind and beyond it, with some of these portraits taken in minutes, while others were created over many years of friendship and shared experiences which continue today. Ultimately each portrait is a window in time and into Tommy’s world as he captures the essence of the moment, the people and the relationships, helping you connect with the subject. The exhibition includes portraits from visits to Uganda, India and other countries, and can be viewed from 10:00am – 4:00pm each day at Tavistock Wharf (admission free). On 10 December at 7pm you can join Tommy for an engaging evening as he shares the stories behind his photographic adventures (tickets £3 from the Wharf box office).
