Wildwood Arts Dartmoor: Exhibitions, new artists and workshops.

Exhibitions

Well summer is here at long last and to celebrate we are opening our Summer Exhibition on the Solstice: June 21st.

The Summer exhibition will celebrate the very best of Wildwood's permanent artists and the theme of myth and magic will be subtly interwoven throughout. So please do come along and see us over the summer. We have new exciting artists joining us every week, so there is always something new to see.

We are not holding a preview evening for this exhibition as we have had so many-8 in fact, already this year! This has meant that the work of the artists we represent is not always on view and so we are changing the way we work.

The gallery is small and yet we have big artist names and a large number of work that we cannot display all at once and so we are taking the summer months and a rest from preview evenings (which take a considerable time to organise) to update our website and have all our artists work online-a virtual gallery!

We will be having bigger and extended seasonal exhibitions four times a year with possibly two solo exhibitions in the smaller gallery room.

Our next preview evening will be the autumn exhibition-details to follow...

NEW ARTISTS

PETER DOLBEAR

We are thrilled to welcome Peter Dolbear who has joined Wildwood as a permanent artist. It is unusual to see such large and bold watercolour paintings and  the effect is striking! His watercolours capture the vibrant colours and atmosphere of open moorland. He works exclusively outdoors, painting throughout the year, whatever the weather; paint has been known to freeze on the paper or be washed off in the rain as he works.

Peter prefers to use watercolour as he believes it offers spontaneity atmosphere and spirit of time and place.

AYSE RIFAT

We just could not resist Ayse's fabulous work!

Ayse has had a fascination with wildlife and nature since childhood and has spent many hours observing the natural world. With an eye for detail and a love for birds Ayse expresses this in her paintings and drawings, working from sketches in her home studio using acrylics and graphite to capture each subject in as much detail as possible producing final pieces with intense realism.

JOSH BYGRAVE

Josh's talent is unmistakable. We believe that Josh has a great future as an artist ahead of him and think he is one to watch! He is a young landscape artist from Plymouth who is inspired by Dartmoor and its changing light. He notes Turner as being of particular influence and we can definitely see that in the way he manipulates the light to create a sense of depth, atmosphere and perspective.

FREESTYLE FELTING

with  Hilary Charlton- Woodgate

Sunday 12th July

This is a workshop aimed as an introduction to the basics of felt making, the aim being to inspire the student to want to learn more and to explore the potential of felt in all it’s forms. The choice could be to make a 2D table-runner or to use a ‘resist’ to make a 3D project such as a bag, a vase, a cover for a computer tablet or book, a cowl, fingerless gloves or a bowl  perhaps? In fact the list is endless, and of course more than one project can be undertaken providing time permits. Within a small group, each student also has the benefit of overseeing and being inspired by each other’s work and so is able to learn about several techniques at the same time. cost £70
