Lydford Gorge Wakes Up

Wildlife wake-up

Late winter/early spring is a great time to take a walk through Lydford Gorge.  The trees are starting to come into bud, the birds are singing in the trees and woodland plants poke their noses above ground.  On bright crisp days the water can glisten as the sunlight penetrates into the gorge further due to the lack of leaf cover. On wetter days the river and waterfall roar through the gorge.

See the new bridge crossing the river at the base of the White Lady Waterfall.  There has been a bridge at this crossing point for many years right back to Victorian times.  The new bridge has been built in-situ due to limited vehicle access into the gorge.  It is very different to the Victorian version of just a log and some rope!

We have exciting events over the February half term and Easter break for families from Cadbury’s Easter egg hunts to building bird nest boxes. For more information visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lydford-gorge
