Co-operative learning!

Harvest Workers Co-op is a workers' cooperative based in Okehampton. We run both the Harvest Farm Shop in Red Lion Yard and regular community education projects and events. All our work Is based on growing an understanding and involvement in the production and use of local, seasonal, organic food.

This year our plans had to change. We had an exciting mix of practical workshops and events planned for the community of Okehampton, supported through funding from Okehampton United Charities and Learn Devon. But the impact of Covid-19 changed this. We have adapted to the situation and are discovering new ways of connecting local people to good mood food.

So look out for our first ever online community film show! This will be the life-affirming film 2040, which looks at what we can do now to make 2040 a positive date to look forward to. The film, at 7pm on Sunday, May 3rd will be followed by an online discussion. Tickets are free but you need to register through the website at www.harvestworkerscoop.org.uk Find out about the film https://whatsyour2040.com

Seasonal family workshops

We've been running these monthly events for over two years. They are a mix of gardening activities, creative, seasonal cooking and storytelling. Usually based at the wonderful EcoHub next to Okehampton College, they are now being presented through words, images and video.  You can find these on our website and through our social media.

Growing Plot to Cooking Pot

A project for people out of work, involving gardening in limited space and cooking seasonally with a limited budget. This is now being presented through online guides and recipe and activity postcards in the shop.

Land workshops

From potato planting to apple pruning - we are creating simple guides with images and video clips to reflect what is happening with Martin and Sara who run Hilltown Organics. We also will be posting information about other farms that supply the shop.

Get snapping folks!

This is an invitation to enter your photographs in our calendar competition. There are lots of categories and we will be showing them as an online gallery and in the shop, before deciding which to include in the 2021 Harvest Calendar. Find out more on our website.

All these events and resources are free. We are very grateful to Learn Devon who are supporting the Family Workshops and Growing Plot Project and to Okehampton United Charities who support our whole program.

The Harvest Farm Shop is open for shopping, orders and deliveries. We have guidelines in place to do this safely. We are starting a Veg Bag project bringing simple fresh vegetables to the Okehampton Food Bank and also working with the excellent Okehampton Volunteer Support Group helping to bring food boxes to vulnerable folk in self isolation.
