Peace and Coffee at Fernworthy Reservoir

An exciting new mobile coffee business is coming to the North Dartmoor reservoir from the beginning of August, just in time for those long family days out during the summer holidays. Serving certified organic and Fairtrade tea, coffee and hot chocolate in addition to a variety of locally sourced cold drinks and snacks, from a classic Piaggio Ape, Peace and Coffee can be found at Fernworthy Reservoir every day during the school holidays and every weekend during term-time.

Born of the desire to deliver a selection of Devon’s fantastic home-grown food and drink in beautiful rural settings, Peace and Coffee is brought to you by Kate and Paddy Dowsett; a husband and wife team who live on Dartmoor. They are keen outdoor enthusiasts and true coffee lovers but believe that the two do not need to be mutually exclusive.

Kate said “Dartmoor is such a special place and very close to our hearts. There is so much on offer here and Fernworthy Reservoir is a fantastic day out. There is nothing better when you find a beautiful and safe place for the children to run around whilst you can chill out with a decent cup of tea or coffee. Over the years we have learnt to enjoy the simple things in life!”

Donna Saunders, Head of Catering and Hospitality for South West Lakes Trust, said “The new refreshment facilities will be a fantastic addition to Fernworthy and I am certain that our customers will enjoy the delights that Peace and Coffee has to offer. I wish Kate and Paddy the best of luck with their new venture”

Idyllic Fernworthy offers a safe and secure area for dog walkers and families alike with clearly defined trails and a number of routes of varying lengths. Visitors to the site can also benefit from the picnic area which provides a magnificent viewpoint of Fernworthy’s archaeological points of interests and the lake itself. For the wildlife lovers there are two bird hides to choose from and for the keen fishermen the reservoir also offers traditional fly fishing for natural and stocked Brown Trout. With the addition of the new refreshment facilities, there really is something for every age and ability to enjoy.

To celebrate the arrival of their little Piaggio, lovingly nicknamed ‘Pooh’, Kate and Paddy will be holding a launch day on Friday 4 August. Join Kit Hancock, North Devon Countryside Warden for South West Lakes Trust, on a 2 hour guided walk around the reservoir,

commencing at 10.30am. Don’t forget to ask him about the legend of the Fernworthy Earth Gnomes! Pop along to enjoy the festivities but before you visit, be sure to download the free flapjack voucher on Peace and Coffee’s website! You can also find out more about local suppliers, the driving force behind the business and their coffee cup recycling programme which will raise money for a local charity, at www.peaceandcoffee.co.uk.
