To celebrate the completion of a series of extensive refurbishment and improvement works at Parklands Leisure Centre, local families, residents and centre members are invited to see the exciting changes at the centre’s Grand Open Day on the 13thOctober from 10am to 4pm.

Marking a major investment of over £250,000 in improving local leisure facilities, the works were led by the UK’s leading sports and leisure charity, Fusion Lifestyle, and were designed to significantly improve and modernise the centre. Just some of the improvements which have taken place include the creation of a new entrance and reception area, as well as refurbished dry changing facilities.

One of the biggest new additions is the creation of a new ‘INTENCITY’ studio, located on the first floor of the leisure centre and the first of its kind in the South West. The new studio is equipped with a track, rigs and fitness stations that are designed to offer the perfect setting for trainer-led activities, including HIIT (high intensity interval training), cardiac rehabilitation, GP referral and personal training sessions.

The gym has also been completely refurbished and redecorated, with the installation of new flooring, lighting and air conditioning system. Members and gym users can also look forward to using the latest in new industry leading fitness equipment.

Visitors can try out the new gym equipment, enjoy a group exercise class, experience the new Intencity studio, take a dip in the swimming pool and take advantage of special membership offers.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet and talk with the leisure centre team. And children can take a free swim school assessment.

The works form part of a multi-million-pound investment from Fusion Lifestyle, South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council in improving six Devon leisure centres. Along with Parklands leisure centre, and as part of a three year-programme, other locations set to benefit from improvements include; Meadowlands Leisure Centre (Tavistock), Ivybridge Leisure Centre, Quayside Leisure Centre (Kingsbridge) and Totnes Pavilion. Significant improvements have also already been completed at Dartmouth Leisure Centre.

Rob Taylor, Divisional Business Manager, Fusion Lifestyle said: “It is fantastic that the refurbishment and improvement works at Parklands Leisure Centre are now complete, helping to significantly enhance the experience for our customers and those in the local area.

“The improvement works not only mean that our members are continuing to benefit from the latest in facilities and equipment but have also ensured that the popular leisure centre can be enjoyed for years to come. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Open Day, where they will have the opportunity to see some of the exciting changes for themselves.

“Parklands is just one of six centres across the region set to benefit from significant improvements, and we recently completed works at Dartmouth Leisure Centre – which included creating a new extension, café and reception area. We are committed to nurturing and maintaining local sports and leisure facilities, which includes making a serious investment in their improvement and long-term upkeep.”

West Devon Borough Council’s Mayor, Cllr Mike Davies, said: “The Council is delighted to work with Fusion with their improvements to meet the needs of the community and to help keep our residents fit and healthy. The improvements at Parklands really are fantastic. The refurbished gym is looking great and the new gym equipment is state of the art, along with all of the other improvements, meaning residents have a facility which is second to none.”
