PARKLANDS LEISURE CENTRE TRANSFORMED BY £360,000 INVESTMENT Community encouraged to visit the new gym, studio, café and other facilities with free day pass

A major investment of £360,000 has been pumped into Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton over the last7 months, kitting the gym out with top-of-the-range equipment and adding an exciting new studio, as well as refurbishing and replacing a range of other facilities. Already proving a hit with existing members, the local community is being invited to snap up a free day pass to try out the new facilities for themselves.

The investment project, which breathes new life into Okehampton’s much-loved leisure centre, was led by Fusion Lifestyle, the UK’s leading sports and leisure charity. The project has seen the gym overhauled and brought up-to-date with the arrival of 45 pieces of top-of-the-range new equipment, including three new punch-bags, a range of multi-functional benches, a track, and SkiErg sledge.

The centre has also been equipped with a new studio, including a brand new INTENCITY HIIT studio – the only one of its kind in the area – offering 15 exciting and high-octane classes per week, focusing on intense and fast-paced sessions that are designed to rapidly improve fitness levels. The work has also seen a new reception area and dry changing rooms created at the centre, with two new water boilers and a water pump installed behind the scenes.

As a result of the works, Parklands Leisure Centre now boasts a wide variety of ways for the whole community to get active. It forms part of a multi-million-pound investment to improve six Devon leisure centres, undertaken by Fusion Lifestyle, South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council. As part of a three year-programme, other locations benefitting from investment include; Ivybridge Leisure Centre, Quayside Leisure Centre (Kingsbridge), Meadowlands (Tavistock), Totnes Pavilion and Dartmouth Leisure Centre.

David Ling, Business Manager at Fusion Lifestyle said: “The completion of the work at Parklands Leisure Centre is a major milestone, which will significantly enhance the experience for our customers and those in the local area. The investment will ensure this popular leisure centre can be enjoyed for years to come by the community. We are committed to nurturing and maintaining local sports and leisure facilities, which includes making a serious investment in their improvement and long-term upkeep.”

Cllr Robert Sampson, Lead Member for Commercial Services at West Devon Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted to see the completion of these works at Parklands, which will mean that West Devon residents and visitors will have access to top-quality fitness facilities. I’m sure that both regular users and new members will be very impressed.”

Chris Lamble, General Manager at Parklands Leisure Centre, added: “We have had a great response to the refurbished centre and new facilities so far. Parklands is an asset to the local community and plays a fundamental part in the lifestyles of the people of Okehampton and the surrounding villages. We are excited to be able to have even more to offer now, to help more and more people in the local area get fit and active.”

Parklands Leisure Centre member, Chris Treaise, says: “I visit the centre to swim and use the gym twice a week. I’m working towards and Ironman next year and I find the new facilities great, especially the newly refurbished gym. The INTENCITY studio is one of the best I’ve ever had the privilege of using, and the excellent range of classes really are designed to help you achieve your goals.”
