Hockey thriving in Okehampton

Hockey is thriving in Okehampton with both the ladies and the men’s teams looking forward with anticipation to the start of the new league season in September. There has been a lot of change in the hockey league structures during the last 18 months as England Hockey have reorganised the administration of the game.

This coming season the ladies, who celebrated their centenary season in 2019, are expecting to field four ladies league sides and junior sides at u12 and u14 level in the Devon junior leagues. The ladies first team will be playing in the South Division 1

The men who, at the end of the 2019/2020 season were named the 'England Hockey team of the year', are intending to run two men's league teams with the first team playing in Division two South. They will be fielding u14 and u12 junior teams in the Devon leagues.

New umpires are always welcome to join us, and the club has an excellent relationship with the Devon Hockey Umpires Association who will provide coaching and mentoring for Umpires at all levels.

The club has recently renewed its ClubMark accreditation and has followed the England Hockey return to play guidelines to enable midweek training sessions for adults and Saturday morning sessions for junior players over the summer months which have all been well attended. We will be resuming the adult training sessions on the All-weather pitch in Okehampton in August; the ladies will be practising on Wednesday evenings and the men on Tuesday evenings throughout the season.

The junior Saturday morning sessions for school years 4 to year 10 will be starting in September, and in addition to this we are planning to start a new venture with ‘Hockey heroes’ for 5 – 8 year olds.

All the information about the club and training times are on the club website and if you are interested in joining us, please contact us via the club website okehamptonhockeyclub.clubbuzz.co.uk
