Tech Tips from ChezvousPC

Getting pop ups on all your devices?

We have come across a couple of instances recently where people's routers have been compromised by spyware or an infection. Factory resetting your router will fix this but can be a bit daunting for the home user. It is very important to change your default router admin password to prevent this happening to you.

Are you a Yahoo email account holder? Have you been advised to change your password due to their security breach?

If you haven't yet done this it is very important that you do change your password, it is a genuine email and as such needs taking notice of. Remember that you will need to enter the new password into all of your devices such as phone and ipad/tablet once you have made the change. If you require help we can come to you or you are welcome to pop into the office.

Laptop or PC getting a bit slow and rattly?

As your computer gets older, the moving parts start to wear. The average lifespan for a normal mechanical hard drive is difficult to predict, although ~80% of drives last past 4 years old. At this point however, it is unlikely to be running at full performance, and if you had bought a higher end PC at the time this can be a bit of a disappointment. Now, with the widespread introduction of Solid State hard drives, a speed boost is available! These replace the mechanical drive with the equivalent of a high-capacity flash drive which doesn’t suffer the same wear, and is a lot faster to boot! They aren't cheap, however, and if you have a fair amount of data, you may be better off with an SSHD - A hybrid between traditional mechanical, and Solid State. More GB's to the £, and much faster than the older drive models!
