New release for folk favourites: Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll – Cold Light

Popular folk musicians Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll are set to return to the Plough Arts Centre in Torrington to celebrate the launch of their new album “Cold Light”.

Nick and Becki are stunning fiddle players, singers and composers with an innovative take on English folk. Their combined skills and musicianship forge a ‘joyful collision’ of traditional music and contemporary bowed strings.

Their unique sound blends bewitching melodies, driving fiddle chords and powerful vocals, interspersed with anecdotes of adventures and stories from the road.

“Cold Light” reaches into the heart of the English tradition and brings to life old tunes from the archives, alongside the duo’s compositions and newly written songs. The album’s refined arrangements feature intricate subtleties that build from a simple riff to cascading rhythms, stunning harmonies and dramatic crescendos. Becki says: “We’re really excited about the new music on this album. We’ve combined old and new to create a really different sound, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with our audience.”

This is the very essence of folk music; allowing the past to inspire the future.

“Cold Light” features some fantastic guest musicians, and Nick and Becki will be joined by some special guests for the launch evening, adding bass, piano, accordion and brass to the distinctive duo fiddle sound.

Nick says: “We’d love to welcome you all to the Plough to celebrate this launch with us, and we hope you’ll love the new material. Come and join us!”

For a great evening out, in the company of two of the region’s best performers, join Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll for toe-tapping tunes, dark new songs and a few surprises along the way!
