50 days out this summer on Dartmoor

In need of summer inspiration? Dartmoor National Park and Visit Dartmoor have got you covered with 50 days of fun-packed events and activities across Dartmoor. There's no chance of being bored this summer holidays with something planned every single day, for all ages.

The '50 Days on Dartmoor' summer inspiration calendar is available at Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centres, Tourist Information Centres and businesses across the moor.

It can also be downloaded from www.visitdartmoor.co.uk/50 or the Dartmoor National Park website, where more information about all the events can be found.

Summer kicks off with a day at the Dartrock Climbing Centre on 21 July and ends on 8 September with a workshop on Dartmoor Navigation with Crag 2 Mountain. The other 48 days are packed with activities such as following the new Heritage Trail in Tavistock, accessible walks suitable for mobility scooter users and walking friends, and cycling the Granite Way.

Days out with Dartmoor experts include the archaeology of Merrivale with Dr Lee Bray, lettterboxing with Dartmoor’s Daughter, illustrated talks with ecologist John Walters and a Children’s Discovery Trail at Haytor with Ian Johnstone.

Some of the other ‘must-dos’ include getting back to nature with Dartmoor Ranger Forest School, becoming a History Hunter with guide Paul Rendell, getting a taste for local life with fairs and festivals, and a wild day out at Meldon Wildlife Festival.

‘With the summer holidays upon us we wanted to make everyone aware of the amazing opportunities for great days out across Dartmoor,’ said DNPA Visitor Services Manager Rebecca Martin.

‘There are events and activities for people of all ages, interests and abilities, Dartmoor is a real treasure trove just waiting to be discovered. ‘Our friendly and knowledgeable Visitor Centre staff at Postbridge, Haytor and Princetown will happily talk you through the options and there are other Dartmoor Information Centres in Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Buckfastleigh, Holne, Ivybridge, Moretonhampstead, Tavistock and Okehampton.

‘A summer’s day spent on Dartmoor can be such a refreshing change from the beach where people can end up scrabbling for the last patch of sand. ‘On the moor there’s space for everyone, room to breathe and, if you’re so inclined, try something completely new.' 

‘Dartmoor’s towns and villages also reward a visit with a huge range of independent shops and fantastic places to eat and drink. ‘So go on, make summer 2019 the season you explore Dartmoor. ‘Had there been a hundred days in the holidays there would still be something to do every day - and more!’
