Calstock Walk with Tamar Valley Heritage Guide

by

Join Les Deering, Heritage Guide for the Tamar Valley area, early next month, on a 3-mile guided walk of Calstock.

Discover what Calstock was like in the 1800s, take a stroll around the historic village centre and find out more about the old quays at Lower Kelly.

Les is one of four Heritage Guides in the area, who completed a nine-week course earlier this year, led by local Blue Badge Guide, Chrissie Le Marchant. The course covered presentation skills, organising and running events, leading guided walks and research techniques. It was organised as part of the Heritage Lottery funded Helping Hands for Heritage project.

The guided walk of Calstock takes place on Saturday 8th October, 11:30am – 1:45pm, meeting at Calstock Railway Station. Why not come by train, along the beautiful Tamar Valley Line? (10:54 from Plymouth, returning to Plymouth on the 13:56 from Calstock).

There is no charge for the walk, but donations are welcome. All proceeds will help to keep the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty special for all to enjoy. No need to book, for further information, please contact the AONB office on 01822 835030.

If you would like one of our Heritage Guides to lead a walk for your family, local group or club, or to give a talk, please do get in touch – 01822 835030, volunteering@tamarvalley.org.uk .

ENDS

Tamar Valley AONB

·       The main purpose of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) partnership is to conserve and enhance the landscape of this special area.

·       Cornwall and Devon County Councils, South Hams District Council West Devon Borough Council and Plymouth City Council have formally adopted the new plan and these local authorities (except Plymouth City) together with Defra also fund the core work of the AONB. There are presently 28 members of the AONB Partnership.

·       Since 2011, Defra has been responsible for the direct funding of AONBs through a tripartite agreement between Defra, Natural England and National Association for AONBs.

·       The AONB Management Plan guides and informs authorities in the application of their statutory duty to have regard to the purposes of the AONB.

·       We must all work together to protect our finest countryside
