Walks for All in the Tamar Valley

The latest programmes of walks in the Tamar Valley, aimed at those who are looking to improve their health and meet new people, are available now to pick up from local outlets or to view online.

Three different weekly walks take place in the Tamar Valley area every Wednesday and Thursday morning. All are free; the walks are a great way to explore the local area and get to know new people.

Walk & Talk: Tamar Valley on Wednesday mornings, explores Luckett, Cadsonbury, the Bere peninsula, plus new walks around Caradon Hill via Minions and the Tavistock Railway and Canal.

Walking for Health, every Thursday morning, offers a series of easier walks varying from 30- to 90-minute strolls. On each walk there will be two fully trained walk leaders, giving all the support and encouragement you’ll need if you’re just starting out, or getting back into shape after an illness or operation. Most walks begin at the Tamar Valley Centre, Drakewalls, near Gunnislake.

New this summer are slightly longer walks, including a beautiful walk through Cotehele Woods and a chance to have a tour of the Harrowbarrow & Metherell Community Orchard. These longer walks come with the incentive of ending at a well-earned refreshment stop! The monthly themed walks, where walkers will learn more about certain aspects of the local area, will also continue. Don’t miss a butterfly walk through Danescombe on 11th August or the Drakewalls to Calstock walk on 8th September, looking out for batty features in the landscape.
