Pudseys Day of Morris

Saturday 19th November

Meavy based Dartmoor Border Morris have organised an event, which has been dubbed Pudseys Day of Morris,  where following the success of the last two years, we have invited ten other Morris sides to join us in Tavistock’s Bedford Square, to dance all day -  they have all said yes!

Whilst the different sides dance, you will find side members walking around with collection buckets, marked "BBC Children in Need Appeal". Admittedly our day got cut short last year by freezing rain falling horizontally for too long, but that didn`t dampen the spirit of those who took part. Every penny collected went to the charity. Despite those potential black rain clouds, the event is always full of colour, music and passion , but also very family friendly , with plenty of opportunities for the public to have a go.

Morris dancing is centuries old and thanks to Oliver Cromwell who tried to out it once, we have more questions than answers on its origins, but it is still a very popular past time for those who like to dance to live music, keep fit, or for the musicians who don`t want to play alone at home anymore. Most of the sides local to Tavistock will be keen to attract new members of any age or any background.

Pusey’s day will start at 10am with Dartmoor Border dancing with the Plymouth Maids Clog dance team:

11 am, Tinners Morris will dance with the Plymouth Morris Men,

12 pm, Dartmoor Border will dance with Isambard Gasket Rats,

1 pm The Old Town Twelves will dance with Beltane Border

2 pm Catseye Morris with Cog`s & Wheels ladies Morris,

3 pm Wreckers Morris with Lodestone Border Morris

4 pm A Morris style music session in the Tavy club, open to anyone who fancies joining in or would like to find out more about Morris.
