Spooky Day and Halloween Trails at Lydford Gorge

October is the month at Lydford Gorge when night’s darkness falls earlier and earlier and it’s is a time when its myths and legends become believable. When you come here to walk the remaining leaves on the trees rustle in the wind like nature’s lullaby before the year finally goes to sleep. As the conditions in the gorge become wetter the river rushes forcefully through the gorge with the waterfall a now magnificent torrent. These damp conditions provide the ideal habitat for fungi to flourish on the woodland floor as well as on the trees. Summer is over and as birds migrate home for winter the weather is getting cooler. This is the time for the squirrels at the gorge to find, and hide nuts to get through the long cold winter ahead for the hedgehogs, dormice and bats to feast on insects and the remaining autumn fruit in readiness for hibernation. Walking through the gorge in October allows our visitors to hear, touch, feel and see nature in the last days of autumn before winter finally arrives.

At Lydford Gorge you can always be assured of a very warm welcome and a wonderful day out. For more information and details of our events please visit our website or give us a call on 01822 820320.
