Why exercise and healthy nutrition really do matter

Learning the whys and hows will help you understand the requirements of exercise and healthy nutrition. At a young age I found a passion for sports of all kinds. Football, badminton, taekwondo, rollerblading and windsurfing took up most of my spare time. Aged 18 I joined the Royal Marines.

I enjoyed an 8 year career in the military, taking me all over the world and encountering experiences I never would have in ‘civvy street’. It made me the man I am today and gave me a much broader outlook on life.

Making habits is far more effective and long term than fad diets and wonder pills. Learning the whys and hows will help you understand the requirements of exercise and healthy nutrition. At Claymore I offer one to one personal training, boot camps, military training and much more.

There is strong evidence to prove that a lack of exercise and a poor diet are linked to many physical and mental illnesses from high blood pressure (hypertension) to depression, and obesity to osteoporosis. A fad diet may lose some weight for a period but as soon as you stop that diet it jumps back on again. Knowing the importance of calorie intake, how different foods affect us and the best times to consume your ‘treats’ will keep you functioning optimally and help to shift stubborn body fat.

After the Royal Marines I worked in Iraq as a Close Protection Officer for 2 years and enjoyed weight training to keep fit. Looking to pass on my knowledge and passion for keeping fit to others I completed a Personal Training level 3 course with YMCA Fit, including modules in high intensity interval training (HIIT), suspension training, padwork (boxing and kickboxing), first aid and business along with a Strength and Conditioning course to help all levels of fitness enthusiast. I am currently completing an exercise referral course to work with clients suffering from obesity, diabetes type 1 and 2, hypertension and more.

Whether you need to lose weight for an event, get fit for a race or competition or just want to be stronger to deal with life in general, get in touch with Jamie to discuss training options. Military preparation consists of specific strength and fitness training for the client’s goals, and map reading, navigation and basic field craft for the Royal Marines and Army training.

Every client is an individual with specific goals. Claymore Strength and Conditioning's aim is to achieve them through physical training and nutritional habits.
